Watching this female leopard hunt was one of my favorite experiences in Botswana. When a leopard stalks prey, it keeps a low profile...slinking into the bush until it’s close enough to launch an attack. A normal meal for these animals ranges from carrion, fish, and birds to larger mammals such as warthogs, antelope, and baboons. Leopards often protect their food from other animals by dragging it high up into the trees. A leopard will often leave it's prey up in the tree for days and return only when hungry. This little lady was quite successful shortly after this photo was taken. Luckily she enjoyed her meal on the ground for me to capture.
